Enric (Enrique Torres-Prat) Vampirella #36 Back Cover Painting Original Art (Warren, 1974). Painted covers for early issues of Vampirella are scarce and coveted by fans. Although the character's entire look was created by Frank Frazetta, who painted her first issue cover, the artist most associated with her is one of her most prolific cover painters... Enrich (aka Enric). He produced 45 of the first 100 issues of the title, and would have produced 46 had this painting appeared as the cover for issue #31 as was originally intended. Vampi's face from this piece became the corner box image on the next issue (replacing Frank Frazetta's art), and the background was edited out for the back cover appearance that the painting made in issue #36. It is unknown why this wasn't used on #31, as it was created for the lead story "The Betrothed of the Sun-God". It features a sun-worshiping Vampi backed by an image of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Here you can see the unedited original piece without any distracting logos or cover blurbs either... the best of all world's really! The fiery piece is created in oil on textured 17.5" x 21.5" art paper with an image area of 14" x 19". There is a 1.5" margin rip on the left side, and some abrasions in the margin and backside from tape removal. The piece appears to have been rolled at one point, with very light wear and soiling on the image area, and is missing some tiny paint flecks. The bottom right corner of the image area has a bit of glue residue from a previous framing. Overall it has great eye-appeal and is in otherwise Excellent condition. A copy of Vampirella #36 is included.
