Description
Eduardo Barreto DC Comics Presents #78 Superman Cover Original Art (DC, 1985). DC Comics Presents was a team-up book, the kind that was more popular in the 1970s and 1980s, largely because of its "one and done" format; a guest star would team up with the title character for one issue, and a new guest-star would appear the following month. Two-part stories were rare, but DC Comics Presents wasn't afraid to stretch out a Superman story, perhaps in deference to the number of Forgotten Villains (and Heroes) in this two-part saga. This cover to Part 2 of "The Triad of Terror!" features the villains Kraklow (from Rip Hunter...Time Master #28), Enchantress (from Strange Adventures #187 ), Atom Master (from World's Finest Comics #101) and Mr. Poseidon (from Sea Devils #2), all standing over Superman, being held in place by a mass of tentacles. Despite the baffling assemblage of lesser villains, this is a great Superman illustration from Edwardo Barreto, conveying strength and power, despite being restrained by the Forgotten Villains machinations. Created in ink and screentone over graphite and blue pencil on DC cover stock Bristol board with an image area of 9.75" x 15". Faint toning, Stat logo/header paste-ups, tape in the margins and abrasion along the top right edge, splatter effects and whiteout touch-ups/corrections, marginal notes, and light handling wear.
