Edrien Nurse Delia's Choice by Virginia Smiley Dustjacket Original Painting (Avalon Books, 1977). Edrien's excellence at portraying innocent beauty fits well with Avalon's house style of decorating each novel with a soulful portrait. The singly named portraitist/designer captures well the image of this novel's protagonist, a young nurse with a terrible choice. This representative example of Edrien's artistry contains two paintings in a single composition: The front-cover image, at right, blends with a book-spine image, at left. The smaller figure was designed to appear alone when the book would have been shelved. Seen full-on in this original state, the art takes on a haunting subtext. Opaque watercolors (dry-brush effects) on illustration board. Image area, 9.75" x 12.25". Includes a text overlay (wrinkled tracing-paper, with typeset elements) and 3 copies of the cover proof. The painting shows moderate age-toning, more pronounced at edges. Very Good condition.
