Description

Edrien King Avalon Romance Novel Cover Original Art (Avalon Books, 1960s-70s). Most of King's fans never knew his full name -- he billed himself only as Edrien during a long and distinguished career of providing vivid dustjacket paintings for Avalon's extensive line of sweetheart novels. This one (from an undocumented title) boasts a particularly rich color-combination, blossoming from a black background into delicate pastels. Here we have two paintings in one: A front-cover image, at right, blended with a book-spine image at left. The smaller figure was designed to appear alone when the book would have been shelved. Seen in this original state, the art takes on a haunting subtext. Opaque watercolors (dry-brush effects) on illustration board. Image area, 10.25" x 12". Excellent condition, with marginal toning and handling wear.
