Description

Don Heck and George Roussos (attributed) The Avengers Annual #1 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1967). This "King-Size Special" was the first of The Avengers annuals to be released. The story takes place between The Avengers #44 and #45. The cover image features the then-current team of Captain America, Hawkeye, Goliath, the Wasp, the Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver. Also present are temporary Avengers Mansion resident Hercules, along with founding members Iron Man and Thor. Talk about "Avengers Assembled"!
The pencils for this wall-busting cover have been credited by some to John Buscema. There are several whiteout art corrections that are most likely by John Romita Sr. and/or Marie Severin.
Created twice-up scale in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13.75" x 20.25". The logo, all trade dressing, and all cover text are stat paste-ups. The Living Laser's floating-head box was trimmed out by production and moved up a quarter-inch and is held in with a patch affixed to the back. The board is toned, and is rippled from being previously cleaned. The piece is in Good condition.
