DescriptionDave McKean Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes Trade Paperback Cover Original Art (DC, 1991). A completely stunning piece, this is a very unusual combination of shadowbox art, found objects, and painting by a master of the medium, Dave McKean. His covers were one of the many things that set Neil Gaiman's Sandman series apart from other comics as something... different... something beyond the rest. The wonderfully colored egg shaped stones are placed in a wooden printer's typeface box, along with some sections of painted board that form the face of Morpheus looking out at you. The left half of the image was intended for the back cover, and indeed the driftwood was used, however, the sheet music was edited out in favor of a sheet of typed text reviews and quotes. This cover image was later reproduced in the book Dust Covers: The Collected Sandman Covers, and also in The Absolute Sandman. This piece is set in a 28.5" x 19.5" x 4" wooden box/frame with a glass top. As it is a delicate piece, it is recommended to be kept flat. In Excellent condition. Third-party shipping is required for this item.
