DescriptionCharles Sultan Yankee Comics #1 Cover Original Art (Chesler, 1941). Eisner shop alumnus Sultan portrayed the first appearance of this patriotic hero in an issue cover-dated September 1941. The issue marked Harry Chesler's re-entry into the comics market, having sold off his comic titles some four years earlier in favor of packaging for other publishers. With the main figure standing some 16" high, this piece has a strong impact when seen in person! A cover from this early in the Golden Age is a treat indeed, and can probably be had for much less money than some much later art offered in this same catalog! Image area of 14.25" x 16.25". Ink over graphite on board. Please note: the board is attached to foamcore and may not be removable. All type elements except "Starring Yankee Doodle Jones" are missing. Very Good condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.
