DescriptionBobby London Left-Field Funnies #1 Cover Original Art (Apex Novelties, 1972). Comix artist Bobby London's drawing style was heavily influenced by the classic newspaper strip art of Elzie Segar (Thimble Theater starring Popeye) and George Herriman (Krazy Kat). This popular Underground featured another homage of sorts in Merton of the Movement (Merton of the Movies was the name of a popular feature film from 1924, remade with Red Skelton in 1947). This cover art has the unusual distinction of actually being created smaller than published size; it's in ink over blue pencil on Bristol board, with an approximate image area of 6" x 8". Most of the word "Funnies" is a separate pasted-on piece. Note the baseball with a lit fuse Merton is catching; in the published comic, it becomes a black bomb. Very Good condition. Includes a copy of Left-Field Funnies. From the Howard Greber Collection.
