Description

Bob Layton Unpublished Alternate Iron Man #131 Cover Scene Original Art (undated). In "Hulk Is Where the Heart Is: Part One," after Iron Man confronts the Incredible Hulk, the man-brute reverts back to Bruce Banner and begs the Armored Avenger to end his life. Instead, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, along with Scott Lang, pool their collective genius to search for a cure for the Hulk. The majority of this design was lightboxed onto what eventually become the published cover in 1980. Our consignor tells us that in Bob's own words, "I recall that I rejected this version of #131 myself because I didn't want Iron Man to look like a total wimp against the Hulk (IM getting beaten up on the covers is one of my big gripes about the Gene Colan era). So, I lightboxed everything off this one -- except the Iron Man figure which was altered to face-off against the Green Goliath on the published version. Only the main figures on this page were originally inked, so I recently completed the backgrounds and added the trade dress to give it a more finished look." This alternate unpublished scene has an image area of 10" x 15", and the art is in Excellent condition.
