DescriptionBob Layton Iron Man #143 Unused Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1981). Iron Man battles the Sunturion in this high-energy blast -- generally unseen for 35 years. Often, a sidetracked piece of alternative art looks better in retrospect than the accepted piece that replaced it. In either version, Layton captures an air of life-or-death urgency -- and here, one gets a better view of both Iron Man and his antagonist. Sunturion was a fan-favorite, if short-lived, character that is well-remembered. Signed twice by the artist, once within the borders, and once in the lower margin. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. The image area is 10" x 15.75", with light toning. Excellent condition.
