Bill Sienkiewicz New Mutants #22 Cover Painting Original Art (Marvel, 1984). A huge original, almost two feet wide and two and a half high, this is a gorgeous Sleeping Beauty-themed cover image, as Rahne Sinclair (Wolfsbane) creates her own fairy tale that serves as a prelude for the next few issues. The cover features her as Aurora, and Sunspot as the slumbering Prince Charming. With the New Mutants movie on the horizon, interest in this property is really heating up, and this issue is from a prime-period for the Chris Claremont/Bill Sienkiewicz collaboration. The story "The Shadow Within" is part one of a four-part story arc guest-starring Cloak & Dagger. The cover art was rendered in mixed media with a matted image area of 23" x 31". Plexiglas front framed to 36.5" x 44". The art surface has dust and some scrapes in the lower section. In Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
