DescriptionBernie Wrightson Swamp Thing #1 Cover Original Art (DC, 1972). One of the most iconic horror covers of DC Comics' long and illustrious publishing career. It's worth remembering that the one previous Swamp Thing appearance, in House of Secrets #92, was actually a different character (Alex Olsen) with a story set in the early 20th century, and that version never appeared again. The much more familiar Alec Holland version first appeared here, on this very cover. This "First Startling Issue" was crafted in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". It is signed by the Master of the Macabre, Bernie Wrightson, in the lower left image area. The logo elements are all original stat paste-ups except for the Comics Code seal, month, cent mark, and the "D" in DC. There is slight glue residue discoloration in that area, as well as a glue stain to the left of the logo where no element is missing -- perhaps a differently-shaped logo was tried at some point. The page is lightly tanned overall. Very Good condition.
