Description
Bernie Wrightson Batman: The Cult #2 Cover Original Art (DC, 1988). This arresting cover from one of the most memorable Batman miniseries is every bit the dark spectacle you'd expect from Bernie Wrightson, the Master of the Macabre. Rendered with brooding intensity, the image captures the Caped Crusader in a rare moment of vulnerability: gauntlet-clad wrists shackled in heavy chains, arms hoisted skyward, his hands still clenched into tight fists in silent defiance. Yet even in apparent defeat, Batman radiates a quiet menace -- a reminder that no trap can hold him for long.Rendered in gouache, ink, and marker over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 9" x 15". The colors appear slightly lighter than in the published version, either due to natural aging or because the printed colors were intensified during production. The board is toned, with minor stains, light soiling in the margins, a small piece of tape along the right edge, and a pinhole with some tearing in the top margin, along with general edge and handling wear. A black stat paste-up has been applied over Batman's left eye, since the published version was cropped just at the bridge of his nose, darkening the small visible portion of the left eye helped the right one stand out even more. Signed by Wrightson in the top left of the image area. In Very Good condition.
