DescriptionBernard Baily Blazing Western #1 Cover Original Art (Timor, 1954). This Western cover shows a shootout from the most dramatic angle possible -- it's an image so forceful that sound effects are unnecessary. This scene has an overall size of 15" x 13.5". The art was trimmed to remove the magazine title -- perhaps it was meant to be the cover of a 1958 I. W. reprint -- but aside from the trimming, overall paper aging, and a small light stain on the shooter's shirt, the art is in Very Good condition.
A veteran comic artist with a 44-year career who established his reputation by drawing The Spectre for DC in the forties, Baily also published comics and ran his own art studio by the end of the decade. Later returning to his solo career, he adapted his style to fit the times when the comics field turned to genre comics in 1948. Baily's art appeared at DC, Atlas, and other publishers in the fifties, but perhaps his most striking and iconic work appeared on a string of comic book covers for Stanley Morse's companies, often featuring an "in-your-face layout."
