Description

Basil Gogos Famous Monsters of Filmland #126 "Mr. Sardonicus" Cover Original Art (Warren, 1976). "Mr. Sardonicus Grins Again" in this wild cover painting, created by monster painter supreme, Basil Gogos. In case you don't remember, Mr. Sardonicus was a 1961 film from producer/director William Castle, the king of theatrical gimmicks, and concerned a young man whose face was bizarrely frozen into a death mask after digging up his father's grave to retrieve a winning lottery ticket left in the old man's pocket. Castle's gimmick for the film was a special "Punishment Poll", glow-in-the-dark cards to hold up at the film's conclusion -- thumbs up for "mercy", thumbs down for "no mercy" (you can guess which one got the most votes). The film was cover-featured in Famous Monsters of Filmland, and this original of the cover is painted in acrylics on illustration board measuring 17.5" x 21.24". Other than a few minor edge nicks, it's in Excellent shape. Hang this hideous masterpiece up in your dining room next time unwanted guests show up for dinner -- we bet they won't stay for desert!
