DescriptionBarry Smith Conan the Barbarian #8 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1971). Early iconic Conan work would define the career of Barry Windsor-Smith for many years and make him a comic art legend. This incredibly detailed cover is without a doubt one of the artist's finest of the run, and one of the most memorable Smith covers ever to be offered at auction. "Classic" in an understatement as it would be difficult to imagine a stronger image of Conan by the artist who ushered the character into comics. The cover also features a small hidden secret. The woman's face was altered by John Romita Sr. before publication. This is the original art by Smith before the alteration was done (presumably on a stat image created from this art). The entire image was also pulled to the right side so the sword didn't stick through the Conan in the corner box.
The logo, header, and corner box art on this piece are reproduction stats, not original. The art is created in ink over graphite on World Color Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15.25". The corner box and logo are a taped-on stat. There is whiteout in the margins. The page is lightly toned, with handling and light corner wear; otherwise, in Excellent condition with high eye-appeal.
