Description

Barry Smith Conan the Barbarian #11 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1971). Barry Windsor-Smith was truly hitting his stride at this point on Conan, with this cover image cleanly and boldly rendered, with no stats, and only one very tiny art correction in the art area. You couldn't ask for a more impressive image of Conan, and this is absolutely one of the finest originals from Smith's legendary run on the title. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board, then trimmed to the (approximate) 9.75" x 10" image area and affixed on a World Color Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The corner box, logo, banner, and half of the top caption box are all stat paste-ups. The right side of the top caption box and all of the lower one are hand-lettered paste-ups. The only bits of whiteout on the cover are a very tiny line touch-up in the gorilla's wrist, and some along the top edge of the trimmed artwork to mate it to the backing board. There are minor production oil stains in the margins, and a staple rip-out in the top left margin. Signed as "Barry Smith" in the upper left of the main image area. In overall Excellent condition.
