DescriptionArt Spiegelman, Trina Robbins, and Jim Osborne Douglas Books Catalogue Original Art (Douglas Books, 1972). The pulp-fiction sensibilities of publisher Alan Douglas led the participating Underground Comix artists to develop a surprisingly unified and tightly composed jam-session image, here. The unabashedly kinky bondage scene showcases three distinctive styles: Robbins' anxious victim (left), Osborne's femme fatale character (center), and Spiegelman's cigar-chomping guy in a stripéd jacket, who may be a detective but also may be a thug. Of course, books are littered all over the place -- It's a catalogue for a bookstore, after all. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with Zipatone shading. Image area, 12.5" x 16.25". Light toning. Slight peeling in the shading film (upper right). Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
