    Description

Alex Saviuk and Murphy Anderson Superman Taschenbuch #79 Cover Original Art (Egmont Ehapa, 1987). "Superman Quarterly" was DC's internal name for a series it produced between 1981-1985 for European publisher Ehapa, whose demand for Superman material wasn't satisfied even by the multiple series the Man of Steel was starring in. The digest-sized German publication is noted above, though the issue (#17 in DC's numbering) may have appeared in other countries as well. We understand there were plans for possible later reprinting in the U.S. that were foiled by a major problem: John Byrne's Man of Steel relaunch after the Crisis on Infinite Earths meant Superman's world had changed and the tales were outdated. If this cover is a bit reminiscent of Superman #249, it's because it features the same villain, Terra-Man. What a treat that they got DC VIP Murphy Anderson to ink the piece! Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 9.75" x 15". The paper has toned considerably. Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
