Description

Alan Davis and Paul Neary Excalibur #14 Wrap-Around Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1987). Excalibur was a title that embraced the bizarre and silly in a wonderful way. There was an eight-part story titled "The Cross-Time Caper," and this issue, titled "Too Many Heroes," was part three of that story. Featured on the front with Phoenix, Kitty Pryde, Captain Britain, and Nightcrawler are Doctor Strange, Iron Man, the Hulk, and Medusa. The wraparound cover appears normal enough from just the front section, but the back section shows how things turned silly. Notably Daredevil, Quicksilver, Captain America/Deathlok and the Humpty Dumpty MODOK. The combination of clever writing and crisp Alan Davis art made this book a surprise hit for Marvel. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 19.5" x 15". Signed in the artwork. Slight tanning. Some corner and edge wear. In Excellent condition.

HA is a traditional auction house, they set up their auctions slightly different from typical domain auctions. This works well, it seems to be a good mix of old age (live bidding in a prestigious hotel) and new age (online bidding).
