Description

Al Jaffee MAD's All New Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions #7 Cover Original Art (EC Publ./Warner Books, 1991). Jaffee has cranked out so many brilliant Snappy Answers covers, that it sometimes becomes a challenge to match the painting with its corresponding book. Not to mention that variant editions can only complicate the process. This exception to the rule is an easy call - one such paperback that went rapidly out-of-print and has remained so. (The downside is that surviving copies now command exorbitant prices.) The cover art, here, is a distillation of practically everything funny about Jaffee: The overwork and impatience endemic to his craft, the irritating fan who supplies the stupid question, and the inquiry that triggers the sarcasm. And what is a "Snappy Answer," anyhow? Well, it's a withering insult provoked by a question whose actual answer should be self-evident. Ink/gouache over graphite on Bristol board. Image area of 8" x 9.5". Very Good condition, with a wrinkled corner and adhesive seams.
