Description

Al Jaffee Good Lord! Not Another Book of Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions Front and Back Cover Paintings Original Art (EC Publ./Warner Books, 1980). Jaffee got plenty of mileage out of the Snappy Answers game, which he had adapted from a much earlier feature, Foolish Questions, by Rube Goldberg. (Goldberg's popular concept even inspired a hit song, 1954's "Foolish Questions," by Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith.) These self-caricature pieces depict Jaffee replying sarcastically to -- what else? -- stupid questions. Ink and gouache over graphite on layered sheets of Bristol/composition board. Image areas, of 10" x 15" and 8" x 6". Title-typeset layers and translucent overlay included. Light toning and adhesive seams, with handling wear. Very Good condition.
