Description

Al Feldstein Panic #1 Cover Original Art (EC, 1954). As if MAD wasn't bad enough, the geniuses at EC decided to unleash the Usual Gang of Idiots on yet another title! Whereas MAD was "Humor in a Jugular Vein", PANIC was "Humor in a Varicose Vein". (Because the jokes were even older...)
This issue is infamous because it was actually banned in Massachusetts because of the "Night Before Christmas" parody.
Created twice-up scale in ink over graphite on EC Bristol board with an image area of 13.5" x 19.25". Signed by Feldstein in the lower right in a parody of Harvey Kurtzman's signature. The header and masthead text are all stat paste-ups. Several pieces in the top header banner are replacement stat paste-ups that are not as aged as the originals. The logo is an original art paste-up. The cover is matted to 18" x 24". In Excellent condition.
