DescriptionAl Avison - Original Cover Art for War Battles #2 (Harvey, 1952). This rip-roaring cover really puts the war right in your face! Three G.I.s try to break across enemy lines to rescue a wounded comrade. It looks like a pretty dicey operation but the odds are improving - the enemy soldier in the bottom left corner just took a bullet to the head! The low perspective gives a viewer the enemy's eye view of the action and adds to the drama of the scene. The page measures 14" x 21" and has some creasing at the very bottom and tape stains, but is otherwise in good condition. The title stat is not original. War is hell but Avison's layout and lively brushwork make for heavenly cover art.
