Al Avison - Original Cover Art for Green Hornet Comics #35 (Harvey, 1948). They stand atop a towering bridge, two thugs and our guy in the hornet mask, jostling for supremacy on a teetering edge between life and death. The Green Hornet is doing what he is famous for... fighting the bad guys, and in this moment his career hangs precariously between victory and defeat. Al Avison turns out an irascible image, rich in sardonic wit. The expressions are over-the-top, and the action is highly staged, and a little over-done. Avison has created a perfect blend of crime and humor. The image area is 12.5" 18.5", which has been mounted to a larger 13" x 18.75" illustration board. You'll find a minor amount of aging overall, but the image is clean and clear. The original logo and indicias have been replaced by a photocopy.
