DescriptionAl Avison Black Cat Mystery #35 Cover Original Art (Harvey, 1952). This mournful and disturbing image features an atomic bomb detonation in the background! Al Avison's chunky, thickly styled line brings home the horror and despair in this great gem from the pre-Code days. EC is remembered as the ruler of the horror market, but Harvey could give them a run for the title. Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" x 19". At the time of production, the original art was cut, repositioned, pasted-in, and artwork adjusted to make it match up. As such, there are several layers of original art on Bristol board pieces affixed to the bottom layer board. Slight tanning, with a missing paste-up on the top left of the logo. There are two 1" rips in the top margin and some glue residue in places. The layers of paste-up make it a bit fragile. A solid frame would do this a world of good. Overall in Very Good condition.
