    Description

Willy Murphy San Francisco Comic Book #3 Complete 1-Page Story Original Art (Print Mint, 1971). Murphy's satire of TV journalism finds a big-footed stoner recoiling in horror from the 6 o'clock news. The briskly timed gag shows how the Underground Comics adapted conventional comic-strip gagwriting, from setup to punchline, to its core audience's way of life. Murphy's atmospheric depiction of a crash-pad household is brilliant in its exaggerated realism. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12.5" x 19.25". Faint toning. Marginal push-pin punctures. Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection. From the Eric Sack Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
