    Description

Will Eisner and Lou Fine National Comics #13 Complete 9-Page Uncle Sam Story Original Art (Quality, 1941). Get ready to be amazed, comic art fans! Here's something that most of us have only dreamed of seeing: the original artwork of a complete 1941 Uncle Sam story by the incredible team of Will Eisner on pencils, and Lou Fine on inks.
Eisner's Spirit had debuted the year before this, and as good as that series looked, Eisner's work never looked better than this, due to the over-the-top detail poured on by inker Lou Fine, who is at the very peak of his talents here.
In this story, commonly referred to as "The Mine Slaves," Fine's inking, particularly his use of intricate cross-hatching, resembles the editorial cartoons of Winsor McCay in places. The fluid action scenes penciled by Eisner (and there are plenty of them, full of flying fists) move like no other, and the combination of these two major artists, toiling together for a ten cent comic book story as if they were working for the best-paying magazines of the day, will simply floor any art aficionado lucky enough to see them in person.
The art is in ink and graphite with blue pencil notations on Bristol board, with an average image area of 13" x 18". The artboards have tanned somewhat over the years, most noticeably on pages with white out corrections; handling wear, edge chipping, and minor stains are throughout, but nothing that seriously affects the artwork; we'll call this a qualified Very Good condition overall.
By the way, these pages were originally gifted to fellow artist Al McWilliams by Lou Fine (as noted in pencil at the top of page one), and the story has remained with the McWilliams family all these many years. Heritage is proud to finally present this "lost" treasure to the marketplace. Let the bidding begin!
