Description
Sergio Aragonés Groo the Wanderer #30 Near-Complete Story Rufferto Original Art Group of 20 (Marvel, 1987). This story was Rufferto's second appearance! The mottled mutt (who is in fact based on Aragonés own dog named Rufferto) would become Groo's truest friend and most trusted companion. Fittingly titled "Rufferto II" (as it is his second appearance), the story by Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragonés is amazingly witty and funny. The only pages missing from the 22-page story are Pages 2 and 3. But one of the greatest things about this lot are the 10 pages that have original art on the reverse side of the boards! Per one of the gags on the back, some of this art is likely by Mark Evanier in some way (either writing the gag or penciling). However most (if not all) is from the hand of Aragonés himself. The Taranto portrait is great. The Fred Flintstone as Groo/Hanna-Barbera gag is great. The chick in the mini-skirt sketches are cute. There is a Charles Schulz-inspired Snoopy sketch of Sergio, as well as a killer "The End of Sergio!" gag. There is a Stan Sakai/Usagi Yojimbo style rabbit head, and a Samurai Penguin on one page (possibly by Stan Sakai). And many, many more great "hidden gems"! The published sides were created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The art on the backs is various combinations of graphite, blue pencil, and/or ink. The top margins are irregularly trimmed. Page 1 has a stat paste-up indicia. The pages are in Excellent condition.More information about Sergio Aragonés.
