Russ Heath - Original Art for Our Army at War #281, Complete 12-page Story, "Dead Man's Eyes!" (DC, 1975). One of the most brutal Sgt. Rock stories ever published, "Dead Man's Eyes!" has a double-digit body count, as Rock leads a pack of recruits straight into a Nazi ambush; the soldiers are heartlessly executed, but Rock -- thought to be dead by the Krauts -- strikes back and eventually wipes out the entire German platoon. But the carnage is not without its toll, and Rock -- after narrowly dodging a land mine -- lies in a catatonic state, his mind haunted by the knowledge of his fallen comrades. Featuring some of Russ Heath's most evocative artwork on the series, this is a stunning, harrowing story that brings the horrors of war home. Heath's legendary brushwork is at virtuoso level here, the action is brisk and savage, and the sight of a nearly-comatose Rock is downright unnerving. A true classic, and in excellent overall condition, this one is not to be missed. Twelve pages, each measuring 10.5" x 16".
