Reed Crandall Gunsmoke Western #50 Complete 5-Page Story Original Art (Marvel, 1959). Great resemblance, here, to an EC Comics story -- Crandall's style carries over intact from his days at pre-Code EC, and all the better for it. The story is a sentimental tale of brotherly love -- between brothers who spend much of the tale pretending to despise one another -- with a historical reference to the notorious Quantrill's Raiders gang. (EC-style irony, here, too.) Crandall's art is downright cinematic. The story falls just two years before the little publisher would transform itself into a superhero juggernaut, with the introduction of The Fantastic Four and companion features. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, the image area is 12.25" x 19". Light-to-moderate toning. Excellent condition.
