Description

Otto Messmer Pat Sullivan's Felix the Cat #84 3 Complete 5-Page Stories Original Art (Harvey Comics, 1957). The title reads, "Pat Sullivan's Felix the Cat" -- but Sullivan (1885-1933) had no more invented Felix than Adolf Coors had invented beer. Messmer, the character's truer creator, labored in obscurity over the long haul while Felix became a perennial comics character. This generous batch captures Messmer at a peak of slapstick artistry. Scattered stylistic touches (the faces of additional animal characters) also suggest the participation of Messmer's longtime assistant, Joe Oriolo. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 18". Excellent condition.
