Description
Otto Messmer Pat Sullivan's Felix the Cat #84 3 Complete 5-Page Stories Original Art (Harvey Comics, 1957). The title reads, "Pat Sullivan's Felix the Cat" -- but Sullivan (1885-1933) had no more invented Felix than Adolf Coors had invented beer. Messmer, the character's truer creator, labored in obscurity over the long haul while Felix became a perennial comics character. This generous batch captures Messmer at a peak of slapstick artistry. Scattered stylistic touches (the faces of additional animal characters) also suggest the participation of Messmer's longtime assistant, Joe Oriolo. Ink over graphite on Bristol board.
