Description

Lee Elias and Anthony Cataldo (attributed) Planet Comics #28 Complete 8-Page Story "Space Rangers in Slavers of the Red Star" Original Art (Fiction House Publ., 1944). Flint Baker and Reef Ryan were recurring SF characters at Fiction House. Teamed under the group identity of the Space Rangers, the heroes proved a formidable and prophetic combination. This splendid example, introducing the Space Rangers duo, opens strikingly with a provocative bondage/torture scene and carries the momentum into a conceptually grisly story about the transformation of colonists into human-headed robots. Elias's robust artwork foreshadows his prominence as a favorite illustrator for DC Comics' SF titles (Elias would progress eventually from "Space Rangers" at Fiction House to DC's like-named but otherwise unrelated "Space Ranger" solo-hero series). Ink over graphite on toned and smudged Bristol board with an image area of 13" x 18". Excessive handling wear and editorial markings on some pages. One conspicuous art correction (the face) on Page 1, in Panel 1. Considerable editorial markings on the title page. Page conditions vary from Good to Very Good condition.
