    Description

Jeff Jones National Lampoon #35 "Idyl" Complete Story Original Art (National Lampoon, Inc., 1973). Legendary illustrator Jeffrey Jones was one of the four artists from "The Studio" in the 1970s. Jones shared studio space with Bernie Wrightson, Barry Windsor-Smith, and Michael Kaluta. The sheer talent in that room was staggering. This lovely strip, "Idyl", was a recurring feature in National Lampoon. It rarely featured the same characters or plot elements. Each was its own short micro-story. The dreamy art and sequencing created a unique effect. Panel #4 from this strip was used as the cover for a European collection of the Idyl strips from the publisher Futuropolis. This piece is ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 17.5" x 26". The 17.5" x 3.5" title header is the original high-quality paste-up element. There is a minor, barely visible horizontal crease; otherwise, the page is in Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
