Iger Studio Mysteries #1 Complete 8-Page Story "Club Horror" Original Art (Superior, 1953). Superior had launched Mysteries (a.k.a. Mysteries Weird and Strange) as an ambitious companion to Strange Mysteries and Journey into Fear -- aggressive censor-bait titles that made such rivals as Tales from the Crypt appear almost tame by comparison. This prime specimen concerns a life-or-death game of roulette, with living corpses as the players. The stakes ran even higher in the comic-book industry, whose horror boom was heading for a bust, scarcely a year away with the imposition of the repressive Comics Code Authority. The artwork bears the assembly-line style of New York's Jerry Iger Studio; the touch of art director Robert Webb is evident in some faces, and in the distinctive story-logo design. The seventh page contains two facial studies (pencil) on the reverse. Ink over graphite on two-ply cardstock. Image area, 12" x 18". Excellent condition.
