Description
Iger Studio Journey into Fear #11 "Miser in the Coffin" Complete 7-Page Story Original Art (Superior, 1953). "A fool and his money are soon parted," but not Thaddeus Crewe. As his relatives hover, waiting for their share, the miser makes one last move, arranging to have his fortune buried with him. It's a plan built on suspicion and pride, and one that quickly turns on him when loyalty proves far less reliable than gold.The tale is a visual feast of pre-Code horror, rendered with bold, inky shadows and a stylized flair reminiscent of Graham Ingels and Howard Nostrand. It opens on a chilling image of Death itself, cloaked and skeletal, weighing gold against corpses in a perfect tone-setter that could have fronted the issue as a cover. Clever design touches, like circular panels anchoring each page, frame eerie close-ups that linger in the mind: a hand clawing from the grave, lightning-slashed cemeteries, grotesque, greedy heirs, and the unforgettable stare of Crewe at the moment of death. It's classic 1950s horror at its most atmospheric and most unsettling.
Twice-up scale in ink over graphite on Bristol boards with average image areas of 12.25" x 18". Light toning, with minor marginal staining, smudging/soiling, glue residue staining due to missing text paste-ups, discolored stat title paste-up, toned text correction paste-ups, stat logo paste-ups in the top margin of each page, whiteout corrections, marginal staple holes, minor edge tears, and edge/corner handling wear. Overall, in Very Good condition.
