Harvey Artist Chic Young's Dagwood Comics #9 Complete 3-Page Pre-Code Story "Special Delivery" Original Art (Harvey Comics, 1951). Chic Young had invented the recurring early-morning collision between Dagwood Bumstead and Mr. Beasley, the mailman. The duty fell to Young's ghost-artist brigade at Harvey Comics to develop that struggle in extravagant detail. Here, Beasley has enjoyed all he can tolerate of Dagwood's daily mad-dash takeoffs -- so a drastic remedy is called for. Brisk and hilarious, but edged with an inescapable grimness of tone. Scattered elements of slapstick violence make it notable that this is a pre-Comics Code story. (And has anybody out there ever noticed how closely Mr. Beasley resembles Dagwood's friendly-enemy neighbor, Herb Woodley?) Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 9" x 13.5". Moderate toning. Excellent condition.
