Description

Harry Lucey and Marty Epp Archie #183 Complete 5-Page Story "The First Peace" Original Art (Archie Comics, 1968). Even the Archie studio got in on the hippie-fied flower-power movement of the 1960s -- though hardly as thoroughly invested in that peace-and-love scene as the simultaneous Underground Comix movement. This unusual specimen depicts Archie Andrews, Reggie Mantle, and their cohorts as long-haired primitives, persuaded to cast off their warlike ways by the pacifistic influence of Betty Cooper. Aristophanes, it isn't -- but the influence is patent. The Lucey-Epp artwork resembles the fluid, pneumatic style of John Rosenberger, another Archie-studio stalwart who alternated between the teen-humor titles and the Archie Adventure super-heroes. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 14". Light toning. Excellent condition.
