Gilbert Shelton and Ted Richards with Willy Murphy and Gary Hallgren Give Me Liberty! Original Art Group (Rip Off Press, 1976). For America's big 1976 Bicentennial, Underground cartoonists Gilbert Shelton (Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers) and Ted Richards (Dopin' Dan) joined forces to tell a slightly askew version of the American Revolution. Makes sense -- after all, the original Undergrounders were pretty revolutionary in their own right! This humongous group lot includes most of the comic, including the fully painted cover and forty-six pages of story art, plus a penciled preliminary cover. Pages include inside front and back covers, pages 1, 3-19, 21-28, 29 (in two pieces), 30-36, and 39-48. The story art is in ink with occasional glimpses of graphite, blue pencil, and white out, all on various sized pages of Bristol board. Image areas range from 10" x 15" up to 13.5" x 20.25". Many pages are composed of taped pieces of board; other than a few loose pasted-on corrections, the overall condition is Very Good. The cover is in ink and watercolor, with red shading film used in the masthead; it's on Bristol taped on one edge to a backing piece of cardboard, with an approximate image area of 11.75: x 17". White tape has been used along the outer borders and the film has a few wrinkles, but overall in Excellent condition. In addition, a long (23" x 2.75" image size) piece of banner art in ink on Bristol is included. See more pages at!
