Description
Curt Swan and Tex Blaisdell Hostess Cup Cakes Ad "Hawkman Makes A Safe Landing" Complete 1-Page Story Original Art (DC, 1980). This sweet treat of Curt Swan art ran as an ad in DC books from February until November of 1980 for a total of at least 27 appearances! The Hostess advertising campaign for Cup Cakes, Twinkies, and Fruit Pies were very clever as they used DC's main "house style" artist Curt Swan, and each one was designed to look like just another page of comic book story... which almost ensured that the reader would at least start reading the ad before realizing they had been "Rick-rolled". The ubiquitous ads have a warm place in the hearts of many fans. And this is a great looking Swan/Blaisdell page even without the delicious moist cake treat. Rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The Cup Cakes in Panel 5 and 6 are stat paste-ups, and one stat is missing from Panel 6. There is a bit of whiteout art correction, and some glue residue near the paste-ups. There are also some missing paste-ups from just outside the image area.
