    Description

Winsor McCay (signing as Silas) Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend Saturday Comic Strip Original Art (New York Herald, c. 1905). A baseball is knocked out of the park, around the world, and back again in this wild strip by the creator of Little Nemo in Slumberland and Gertie the Dinosaur. From what we've been able to determine from books like the Winsor McCay Early Works series, this half-page format strip ran only on Saturdays, as there were no Sunday editions of the New York Evening Telegram. It's interesting to note that one of the places the ball flies through in this page is the old Dreamland tower in Coney Island that was destroyed by fire in 1911. The art is in ink on Bristol board, with an approximate image area of 25" x 15.5", matted and framed with glass to an overall 32.5" x 23.5". The art is in Very Good condition, with minor stains and wear.
