Description

Wayne Boring - Superman Sunday Comic Strip #471 Original Art, dated 11-7-48 (McClure Syndicate, 1948). In this offbeat forties Sunday, Superman travels to Venus to bring back a colossal egg to gratify one of Smartypants' wild and wacky wishes. Wayne Boring is in top form as a Superman artist -- his Man of Steel has seldom looked more polished or vigorous. Meanwhile, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster had just sued DC Comics for a bigger cut of the royalties on the product licensing of their creations for the company. As a result, DC had the "by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster" byline removed from the comic strip and the comic books, and the byline would not return again until after 1975, nearly thirty years later. This Sunday has an overall size of 21.5" x 28". The strip was cut between panel tiers two and three. The art has since been conjoined with tape on the back of the page and professionally restored to Excellent condition.
