Walter Berndt Smitty Daily Comic Strip Christmas Theme Original Art dated 12-19-64 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1964). Berndt's brisk and spontaneous pen-line, deepened by heavy-black patches of ink, propels this shaggy-dog gag to a fine punchline. Seems kid brother Herby doesn't mind earning his Santy Claus rewards -- as long as he doesn't have to take the payoff in socks and underwear. Dee-lightful. Ink over graphite on Bristol board.
