T. E. Powers New York Evening Journal Scopes Monkey Trial Political Cartoon Comic Strip Original Art (1925). Political cartoonist T. E. Powers offers a satirical take on the landmark Scopes Monkey Trial -- officially The State of Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes -- an iconic case centered on the right to teach evolution in public schools. Powers' cartoon features a caricature of William Jennings Bryan, the trial's prosecutor, along with symbolic imagery referencing evolution. Please note: this strip includes some racially insensitive depictions reflective of its era. The strip was published in the New York Evening Journal sometime during the duration of the trial, which lasted from 7-10 to 7-21-25. The back of the board has a production engraving order dated 7-9-25. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 18" x 5.25". Presents with water staining/damage, production notes, rough edges, smudging, and handling wear. In Very Good condition.
