Description
Russell Stamm Invisible Scarlet O'Neil Daily Comic Strip Inscribed Original Art, dated 5-21-46 (Chicago Times, 1946.) The comics' first female superhero lies in mortal danger in this suspenseful sequence. Stamm's Invisible Scarlet O'Neil had surfaced in 1940 -- two years after Sheena, Queen of the Jungle (costumed, but hardly super-powered), and around the same time as Lady Luck and The Woman in Red (heroic, but not superhuman). The superheroic Nelvana of the Northern Lights and Wonder Woman could wait until 1941. By the time of the present selection, Scarlet O'Neil had prevailed in both newspapers and comic books, fading only after a general decline in superhero popularity during the 1950s. Stamm's inscription hails a friend named Eddie. The composition comprises ink over graphite on age-toned Bristol board. Image area, 18.25" x 5.25". In Very Good condition.Auction Info
