Russell Patterson Pin-Up Girls Daily Single-Panel Comic Original Art dated 6-21-44 (King Features Syndicate, 1944). Too versatile to classify -- that's Patterson. He helped to define the 1920s' popular image of the flapper-type glamour girl -- designed display windows for R.H. Macy Co. -- handled costuming and scenery for Ziegfeld on Broadway and Paramount and Fox in Hollywood -- and excelled as a newspaper/magazine cartoonist for the Hearst publications. This display of kinetic frenzy covers an outbreak of possessive jealousy at a nightclub for soldiers: "Hurry!" demands the waitress. "That blonde bomber is headed straight for my target!" Ink and white watercolor over graphite on illustration board. Inscribed, possibly to a colleague, given the wording: "With admiration." (Some prior owner has redacted the personalized notation.) Image area, 8" x 11". Apart from uniform toning commensurate with age, the piece is in Very Good condition.
