Rudolph Dirks The Captain and the Kids Sunday Comic Strip dated 8-3-47 (United Feature Syndicate, 1947). A bold and boisterous example of the historic spinoff of The Katzenjammer Kids. This series had started when a court ruling allowed Dirks to own his characters, but gave his former syndicate the Katzenjammer identity. This resulted in rival versions of the concept, by different artists. Here are domestic shenanigans galore (as usual) in an adventurous setting. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 20.75" x 14.25". Light toning. Excellent condition.
