Rudolph Dirks and Gus Mager (as Watso) The Captain and the Kids Sunday and Hawkshaw the Detective Companion Comic Strip Original Art dated 10-3-43 (United Feature Syndicate, 1943). A delightful pairing of large-scale Sunday funnies. A The Captain and the Kids strip and a Hawkshaw the Detective strip (a Sherlock Holmes spoof) in which Gus Mager, one of the chief architects of comic-strip design, is emulating the near-Cubist style of his friend Clifford Sterrett of Polly and Her Pals. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with a combined image area of 22.5" x 29.5". Overall light toning, with moisture stains on the right side; otherwise, in Very Good condition.
