Description

Rube Goldberg Collier's Weekly "The Inventions of Professor Lucifer G. Butts, A.K." Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-8-31 (McNaught Syndicate, c. 1931). Everyone has heard of a "Rube Goldberg device," but the original art for these strips comes along very seldomly -- we've only seen pre-1950 examples on a few occasions. Here, our favorite inventor, Professor Butts, has figured out a "simple" parachute device, in only 14 steps! This ink on Bristol board piece has an image area of 17" x 6.75", glass front framed to 22.25" x 12". It appeared in the August 8, 1931 issue of Collier's Weekly on Page 26, and also appeared in the February 24, 2014 The Comics Journal. The piece was gifted, by Goldberg, to fellow artist Fritz Henning. A photo of Henning and Goldberg together (c. 1970) is attached to the back of the frame. Edge wear, pinholes, and torn corners, all outside the image area. In Very Good condition. An original copy of the Collier's Weekly issue is included.
