Richard F. Outcault Buster Brown Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 6-11-16 (Newspaper Feature Service, 1916). That wretched child Smithy guest-stars in this Sunday strip, and for once, he doesn't wreck the joint. It's Buster who gets a bustin' this time. Of note, this series was the first comic strip to feature a talking dog, Tige. In this Sunday, we get talking horses! These may well be the first talking horses in comic strips. Created in ink with some watercolor over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 18.75" x 20". The header is included on a separate piece of Bristol board with an image area of 18.75" x 4". Per the production technique of the time, characters, items, and scenes were only colored in their first appearance as a reference for the printer. Both pieces have corner damage and pinholes, and are in Very Good condition. From the Outcault Family Collection.
